PRINT THE STRONGEST THERMOPLASTICS
PEEK (polyether ether ketone) is the strongest 3D printable thermoplastic in the world and possesses an extremely high maximum operating temperature, allowing it to be used as a direct substitute for metals in many situations.
ULTEM™ 9085 (polyetherimide) is a high-performance amorphous thermoplastic with excellent mechanical properties, as well as high heat and chemical resistance. While it is not quite as mechanically strong as PEEK, it is more affordable.
PEKK (polyetherketoneketone) is a relative of PEEK in the PAEK family, and offers similar high-performance mechanical properties, as well as temperature and chemical resistances.
Nylon is one of the most popular production-grade thermoplastics, coming in a wide variety of grades with a range of properties. In general, Nylons possess strong chemical and temperature resistance, and perform better in almost all mechanical categories when compared to ABS.
Polycarbonate is an amorphous thermoplastic that displays high impact and flexural strength, and can be used at temperatures up to 116ºC. It is one of the most commonly used thermoplastics, and excels when moderate heat and physical stresses are present.
TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is a flexible, tough, abrasion resistant material used for situations where high elasticity is desired. Example applications include shoe insoles, flexible tubing, dampeners, and enclosures.
ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is a high-performing, economical plastic for use at temperatures between -20°C and 80°C. ABS is ideal for functional prototyping, jigs, fixtures, and other environments that are exposed to moderate physical stresses.
